Hi! My name is Susan Mills and I am a retired immigration attorney with offices in Providence and Everett. I represented many young people (like Petra, in my novel) who were fleeing from their homes in Central America, and my office often relied on the legal skills and resources of Kids in Need of Defense (KIND). I believe that all children deserve safety and freedom. KIND envisions a world in which children’s rights and wellbeing are protected at all stages of their migration journey to refuge and safety. Your donation to my page will help KIND keep refugee and immigrant children safe and protect their rights and wellbeing.
A portion of the proceeds of my first novel, On the Wings of a Hummingbird, will be donated to KIND but I encourage you to donate directly. The story follows Petra who must grow into the lessons of the Mayan hummingbird as she carves her future out of a childhood scarred by gang violence in her Guatemalan village.
